The annual Hydrogen Student Design Contest challenges university students to design hydrogen energy applications for real-world use.

Established in 2004 by the Hydrogen Education Foundation, the Contest showcases the talents of students in many disciplines, including engineering, architecture, marketing, and entrepreneurship. 2011-2012 Contest Surpasses Expectations, Receives Record Number of Final Entries
20 Student Teams competing for Grand Prize

This year has turned out to be another record setting one for the Hydrogen Student Design Contest. On April 6th, 2012, 20 teams submitted their final entries for this year's Contest. The final entries included teams from Asia, Europe and North America. Judging will occur over the next month and is being conducted by a panel of 20 experienced hydrogen energy professionals from major private and public hydrogen companies, research labs and institutions. Winners of the Contest will be announced on Sunday June 3rd, 2012 at the 2012 World Hydrogen and Energy Conference (WHEC2012) being held in Toronto, CA.


Contest Receives Record Amount of Phase I Submissions
28 University Teams Submit Entries, Qualify for Final Phase

On January 30th, 28 teams from major Universities across the globe submitted their Phase I entry for the 2011-2012 Hydrogen Student Design Contest. For Phase I, teams were required to develop a feedstock and energy conversion analysis. For the final Phase, nearly 240 students are competing from a total of 9 different countries, making this year's edition of the Contest one of the largest and most competitive ever.


Hydrogen Student Design Contest Breaks Participation Record, Again
33 University Teams from 10 Countries Will Compete for the Grand Prize

For the third consecutive year, the Hydrogen Student Design Contest has welcomed the most teams to ever participate in the competition. Webcast Highlighting Rules & Guidelines Announced
October 24, 2011

The Hydrogen Student Design Contest will facilitate a 1 hour webcast on Friday, November 4, 2011 at 2 PM ET to go over the Rules & Guidelines of the Contest. An expert on CHHP systems will participate and answer students' questions regarding the technology.


Contest Deadline Moved to November 15, 2011

The Hydrogen Student Design Contest has moved the initial deadline for abstracts and registration to November 15, 2011, to allow additional time for teams from abroad, whose semester have just begun, to participate in the Contest. The Department of Energy will also use this additional time to highlight the Contest at the Fuel Cell Seminar on November 1st. Sign up now >>


EPA CHP Partnership Supports 2012 Hydrogen Student Design Contest

University of Waterloo wins 2011 Hydrogen Student Design Contest
Five-time award winner presents Grand Prize design to industry professionals at Fuel Cell and Hydrogen Energy 2011 conference

The winners of the 2011 Hydrogen Student Design Contest is the team from the University of Waterloo. This Grand Prize marks the fifth award for the University of Waterloo in the six-year history of the Contest. Contest newcomers Imperial College London and University of California Riverside were awarded honorable mentions.
